      There are five Fine Jaspers that have been marketed in the United States. Two of these, Bruneau and Willow Creek Jasper, are found in Idaho. Bruneau Jasper is found in the Bruneau River Canyon about 30 miles south of Bruneau, Idaho. Willow Creek Jasper is mined just north of Eagle, Idaho (NE of Boise). One Fine Jasper called Imperial Jasper is found near Guadalajara Mexico. The last two are found in Oregon. Blue Mountain Jasper is found just north of the Oregon/Nevada state line near McDermitt, Nevada. Morrison Ranch Jasper or Morrisonite is found on the east slope of the Owyhee River Canyon about 25 miles northwest of Jordan Valley, Oregon.
      Fine Jaspers are defined by the presence of a particular pattern that results from a common set of circumstances in the formation process. Not all pieces of jasper from the above areas exhibit this pattern and each type may have other patterns common or not common to the others. The pattern that is common to each deposit is referred to by several names and appears in the surface of the rock as a series of overlapping oval shapes. These shapes have been called "eggs", rolls", orbs", "Bruneau Pattern", and "orbicular" pattern to name a few. Picture Jaspers and other categories of jasper do not exhibit this pattern.
      The Gem Shop, Inc. has been mining Morrison Ranch Jasper since 1986. There are five adjoining claims in the area and The Gem Shop, Inc. is the principal producer of the jasper from the Christine Marie claim. A video of the mining operation on the Jake's Place claim has been produced. The video shows directions to the area, the general mining procedure, and a brief history of collecting Morrisonite.
