Stefonite
is a rare brecciated jasper that was found by Rudy Stefoin in the 1940s in
only one location in Wyoming. The deposit was a small isolated occurrence
in a secret location and not even Rudy's wife knew where it was. The
Gem Shop purchased all of this material from Mr. Stefoin.
We assume that this material was originally a mud deposit because of the
distinct aroma when being ground. The deposit
seems to have been crushed and the resulting cracks filled in with
black and small blue agate pockets.
The large rectangular piece in the center of
the photo measures about 43 x 37mm.
